JetBlue offers passengers free flight - provided they can agree on their destination

An American airline offered 150 unsuspecting passengers the chance to travel on any of its routes for free.

But before they could take off on the trip of a lifetime, there was one catch - every single passenger had to agree on the destination.

JetBlue came up with the promotion to coincide with election season in the US, encouraging strangers on the plane to "reach across the aisle" to make the unanimous decision.

Up for grabs was a round-trip ticket to one of the airline's 20 domestic or international destinations.

A four-minute video of the stunt shows the passengers engaging in spirited debate, before eventually narrowing down the options to Costa Rica and Turks and Caicos Islands.

"Remember, we all go or no one goes," the announcer in the video warns.

After further intense discussion - and some passengers even taking to the intercom to espouse the merits of their favourite destination - Costa Rica emerged the winner.

"If people compromise and come together, all parties can win," the announcer says.
