POLE TO POLE

Australian small-ship company Aurora Expeditions has announced inaugural polar itineraries for Greg Mortimer, its new ice-class expedition ship. It makes its maiden "Spirit of Antarctica" voyage in October 2019 and will then operate 20 expeditions across the 2019-20 polar season, with itineraries spanning Antarctica (Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands) and the Arctic in Svalbard, Franz Josef Land, East Greenland, Jan Mayen, Iceland and Norway. The new ship carries 120 passengers and an expedition team, and has sea-level Zodiac loading platforms and 360-degree observation decks.

DALMATIAN DEPARTURES

Evergreen Cruises & Tours has a new yacht cruise along Croatia's Dalmatian Coast in 2019 on the new 18-cabin yacht Adriatic Princess II. The eight-day "Islands of Dalmatia" cruise sails between Trogir and Dubrovnik along a spectacular coastline known for its rocky landscapes, azure waters and long history. Departures will be offered between April and October 2019 and can be combined with Evergreen's land tours and river cruises. Adriatic Princess II carries 36 guests and is an intimate ship designed to navigate the Dalmatian Coast's small ports and provide a yachting-style experience.

Avalon Waterways has six new itineraries in Asia and Europe for 2019, and among them is the company's first foray into India, where a 13-day "Colourful India & the Ganges River" voyage from Delhi to Kolkata ticks off big icons such as the Taj Mahal and Jaipur's Amber Fort, but also explores Saint Mother Teresa's former home and visits sari weavers, goldsmiths and pottery makers. There is also an 11-day Myanmar cruise, an eight-day Rhone River cruise, a nine-day Seine River cruise and an 11-day "German Grandeur" journey between Basel and Munich.

Aqua Expeditions is continuing its collaboration with renowned ocean conservationist Jean-Michel Cousteau, offering cruises in October 2018 hosted by the famed explorer on Aria Amazon. Each voyage will include evening talks with Cousteau and screenings of his award-winning films, and guests can get to know Cousteau in the intimacy of a small group. Twice-daily excursions provide the opportunity to meet indigenous communities, head deep into the jungle in search of rare wildlife, and visit local markets. MYANMAR MEANDER

Abercrombie & Kent's all-suite ship Sanctuary Ananda is cruising on Myanmar's Irrawaddy River again this year. The 48-guest custom-built ship offers a range of journeys from three to 11 nights in length that explore the river between Bagan and Mandalay, as well as the Irrawaddy's less frequently journeyed upper reaches and Chindwin River. Cruise highlights include shore excursions to palaces, temples, monasteries and villages. Guests will also experience performances of traditional music and dance, regional dinners, lectures, cooking demonstrations, yoga, meditation and cigar-making lessons.
