You’ll want to dine in at Melbourne’s stylish new loft stay

If only New Yorkers with their own lofty lofts understood the magic of the Melbourne-style loft apartment lifestyle.

Take a look at what those Gothamites are missing out on – that unique Melbourne antipodean laneway culture, brimful of superlative restaurants, killer cafes (with digestible coffee), brilliant hole-in-the-hole-in-the-wall bars and with the mighty “G” an easy saunter or tram ride away.

Add to that the indisputable fact that the Victorian capital’s lively CBD is as close as you get Down Under to a Manhattan-like ambience, and it comes complete with requisite amounts of grunge and graffiti (the arresting spray-can paint splattered Hosier Lane runs off Flinders Lane).

Earlier this year the modern 59-apartment Adina Melbourne on Flinders (as in the thoroughfare) opened six adjoining not-so-modern warehouse-style loft apartments, tucked away on edgy Malthouse Lane, just off Flinders Lane between Exhibition and Russell Streets.

These cosily private lofts come with cool signage and a discrete entrance off the alleyway, sorry, laneway, from the main apartment building.

Now, when you’ve exhausted yourself from exploring the nearby eateries – such as the acclaimed Grill Americano and the secreted Eau de Vie cocktail bar on Flinders Lane – you can dine in and still have someone else cook dinner for you.

For $95 per stay, in a who-needs-Uber move, guests can choose from a selection of four dishes from the South-East Asian influenced set menu from Salted Egg, the restaurant, helmed by Adam Woodfield, ex Chin Chin, that’s part of the boutique-style Quincy Melbourne hotel.

With the Quincy – affiliated to the Adina group and located further south down Flinders Lane – the Salted Egg dinner packs are available only to (ware)house guests who have made their loft reservation 48-hours in advance.

The meal can be pre-ordered as a dinner pack for warming up in your fully-equipped kitchen with choices including prawn and ginger dumplings with Sichuan oil and prickly ash salt, grilled Tao chicken skewers with peanut dipping sauce and Massaman curry of beef brisket with Kipfler potato and cucumber and chilli relish.

Each of the stylishly refurbished open-plan lofts, which come in three different configurations, have high ceilings and original wooden floorboards, the perfect venue for a dine at home (away from home) feed. Eat your palm hearts out, Manhattan.
